Big Bad Wolf

How many times can you strip the flesh from my bones?

You pick me clean,

leave me out for the crows

Yet still you walk away starved

I am done making myself a slave to your appetites

Done cloaking myself in the color of lamb’s blood

Now you can find me among the wolves

Teeth bared, hackles raised

hungry eyes aglitter in the dark

And when I leave your bones out for the crows

Remember that I learned to bite when I felt the sting of your teeth

I learned how to hunger

from the beast you see in the mirror.
